Weather in Senegal

What kind of weather can you expect when you travel to this African country?

Senegal is a country on the west coast of Africa that offers a diverse climate and landscape. If you are planning to travel to Senegal, it is good to know what kind of weather to expect and how to prepare for it.

Senegal has two main seasons: dry and rainy. The dry season lasts from November to May and is characterized by hot and dry days with an average temperature of around 30°C. The rainy season lasts from June to October and is characterized by humid and cooler days with an average temperature of around 25 °C. This period also sees most of the rainfall, which varies by region. Annual rainfall can be up to 1500 mm on the coast, while only 500 mm inland.

Senegal also has a diverse geography that affects the weather. In the north of the country, there is a desert where temperatures can be extremely high and precipitation is minimal. In the south of the country, there is a tropical forest, where temperatures are milder and rainfall is abundant. Between these two extremes lie the savannas, where dry and rainy seasons alternate.

If you are traveling to Senegal, taking clothing suitable for different climates is a good idea. Wearing cotton or linen clothing that is breathable and comfortable is recommended. It's also a good idea to bring layers that you can add or remove as needed. Also, don't forget to bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect against the strong sun. If you are traveling in the rainy season, bringing a raincoat or an umbrella is also advisable. We personally would also recommend you take some nice clothes, because Senegalese women and men are usually dressed colorfully, cleanly and stylishly. It is an important aspect of their culture.

Senegal is a beautiful and interesting country that is worth visiting. If you are well informed about the weather and prepared for it, you can enjoy your stay without any problems.
